activities

Salt Spring is a great place to be active, or to rest, or better yet both.

Just some of the ways to pass the time on the island:

Hike gentle or steep trails by the sea, to the tops of mountains, through green forests.

Fish ocean or lake waters on your own, or with chartered guides.

Kayak the mild ocean coves and bays.

Canoe or swim in our warm island lakes.
There’s also a community pool.

Sailing, of course.

Do you like to snorkel or dive?

Cycle country roads, past heritage farms, vineyards and orchards.

Visit over 40 art studios and galleries.

Watch local artisan bread bakers work their wood oven magic with a breathtaking view of water and islands.

Take in a movie at the cinema or see live theatre at Artspring.

Enjoy nightly live music under the stars, all summer, and right by the water in Ganges, at the Treehouse café patio.

Visit local wineries, and be sure to taste the coveted Blackberry Port.

Go golfing! There are two golf courses on the island.

Wander the bustling, colorful and delicious outdoor market on Saturdays in downtown Ganges at the park. Taste local cheeses, home-made jams, fresh berries and more.

Treat yourself to a fine dining experience in a local restaurant, where you’re likely to find wild salmon, clams or mussels, famous local lamb, and organic vegetarian wonders.

Pack a picnic and go beachcombing.

Read. Just read,  in the quiet of the cottage, in the corner or a café, or at the beach.

Browse one or all of several great bookstores, and the library.

Spend a day dreaming….

There’s plenty to do—or not do! And that’s just on Salt Spring.

Salt Spring Artisans

The island is well known for the quantity and quality of artisans. Spend some time visiting their studios, using the Studio Tour map (you’ll find one in the cottage). You won’t have to look far to begin. The proprietors of Salt Spring Guest Cottage B&B are photographic artists. Visit their studio right on the property. There are also several galleries on the island.
